Extreme Body Mod- The down side
I came across this article about the negative aspects of Body Modification, including the fact that Body Mod is a growing trend amongst young people. It begins by discussing how years ago piercings and tattoos were considered extreme and labeled a person as a rebel or one who dealt with drugs. Then it goes on to explain that in today's century most people accept basic tattoos and piercings.
The article then individually discusses various aspects of more recent Body Modification practices, For example, it discusses the processes of tongue splitting, 3-D body implants
, teeth filling, suspension, voluntary amputation and others.
The majority of the article is spent preaching the dangers of getting these various procedures done to you. The author believes that people should think about how Body Modification can affect one socially for the rest of their lives.

So what is it?
After much consideration.....(and wrestling with trying to get this Blog off the ground in the first place) I have finally decided on a topic, which is.....*drum roll*......BODY MODIFICATION!
And to this most people sigh out an exasperated "What the hell?"...more like an "I don't care." But for the sake of humoring myself (it makes me feel better) I will go into a little bit more detail.
Body Modification is by definition the wounding of the body or body parts by branding, cutting, piercing, tattooing, of inserting objects as a cultural practice or expression of creativity or identity.
Sounds pretty cool to me! What i want to know specifically about this topic are the reasons why people choose to modify their bodies or in what circumstances might people not have the choice, and subsequently, how are people percieved by others in diffrent societies and what their social status's are like as a result of their Body Modification.
